We recently (10th, June) held an exciting joint cross-disciplinary workshop, bringing together our Chinese Language and Arts departments to give students a fully immersive cultural and artistic experience.

Generously sponsored by the ESF Centre (ESFC), we were incredibly privileged to invite renowned modern Chinese Shanshui (landscape) masters from the prestigious Beijing Li Ke Ran Painting Academy to lead the sessions. They beautifully guided our students through the delicate techniques of Chinese brush painting while deepening their understanding of the rich culture behind the art.

The workshop was tailored for our Year 12 Art students, alongside our Year 9 double Chinese Near Native and Chinese as a Second Language classes. This hands-on experience not only enriched their language and cultural appreciation but also inspired brilliant cross-curricular thinking for their future learning.

This 11th June, we were absolutely delighted to welcome the renowned Chinese sci-fi author Stanley Chan (Chen Qiufan) to KGV. Stanley delivered an incredibly inspiring keynote speech on "Technology and Future Learners" to our Year 12 Chinese language cohort. As an award-winning novelist, columnist, and president of the World Chinese Science Fiction Association, Stanley is celebrated globally for his "science fiction realism." Having previously worked for tech giants like Google China and Baidu, he frequently explores the profound relationship between human individuals and accelerated technological change in his famous works, such as Waste Tide and AI 2041.

The event was brilliantly moderated by our student hosts, Hernice Mok and Rio Matsui, who expertly guided the main discussion and smoothly transitioned into an interactive dialogue and Q&A session. A huge shoutout to our student respondents—Elle , Elaine, and Rachel —who sparked fantastic discussion with some deeply thoughtful questions.

We were also honored to host 19 students and teachers from Sha Tin College, who joined the event and contributed excellent questions to the conversation.

During the talk, Stanley shared profound insights into what it means to be a "future learner." He explored how we can remain deeply human and empathetic as technology integrates into every corner of our lives and highlighted our responsibility toward the environment and humanity as we ride this wave of technological revolution.
